Gas Mileage

When buying a car what is most important to you? Many people buy a car based on looks, how fast it can go, or maybe even usability. But one area that a lot of people pass by is gas mileage. Although it is not fun considering the type of gas mileage that each car gets, it is a very important thing to do. In today's day and age of high gas prices if you are filling up once a day you are going to spend a lot of money on a regular basis. So for this reason, when you buy a car considering the gas mileage that it gets is very important.

EPA Estimates

On the sticker of every new car there are EPA estimates on gas mileage. You will notice two numbers; one for city gas mileage and one for highway. In most cases the highway gas mileage number will be higher because most cars do better at conserving gas when holding at a steady speed without a lot of starting and stopping. Although these EPA estimates can give you an idea of the gas mileage that you will get, they are far from accurate in many cases. They may be close to the estimates, but this is not always the case. The automotive industry is currently looking for a way to fix this.

Type of Gas

In addition to gas mileage you also need to have an idea of what type of gas you can use in your car. Some cars allow you to use regular gas, but luxury machines often times require "super" or the highest ranked that you can get. While this may not seem like an issue, you should know two things. First off, your gas mileage will be greatly affected if you do not use the right type of gas. And in addition, you will have to pay more if you cannot use regular gas in your car. Again, this is something to consider as far as costs are concerned.

verall, gas mileage is an important detail to consider when buying a new car. It may be nice to have a huge sports utility vehicle, but if you cannot afford to fill it up with gas you are going to run into some financial hardships. You should really think hard about whether or not the gas mileage suits your needs before you buy.
